As you can probably guess from the tightened restrictions, some, if not all of us, are going to have to tighten our belts again for yet another COVID-19-inspired “financial crisis”.

Well, as the ones who put into place the restrictions, the government is more than clear about the consequences of their actions.

Which is why they’re going to have your back during this tough month.

Or, at least, some of you.

160,000 S’poreans to Receive $100 Grocery Vouchers Via Registered Mail in October

According to the Ministry of Finance (MOF), about 160,000 Singaporeans will receive S$100 worth of grocery vouchers to tide them through this time.

As the name implies, it’s for “groceries”, so no using it to buy your bubble tea unless it comes bottled on the shelf of a supermarket.

The vouchers will expire on 31 Dec 2022 and can be used at the following supermarkets:

  • Giant
  • NTUC Fairprice
  • Prime Supermarket
  • Sheng Siong Supermarket

Basically all the mainstream supermarkets you go to all the time.

Who’s Eligible

Now, for the most important question: Who’s eligible for the vouchers?

According to MOF, individuals who fulfil the following conditions are eligible:

  • Are aged 21 and above this year (2021)
  • Lives in a one-room or two-room HDB flats
  • Do not own more than one property

How Would You Get Them?

Don’t bother looking through your letterboxes (or others) because this year, the government’s going about the distribution in a different manner.

Instead of sending the vouchers to your letterboxes, they’ll be sending them via registered mail instead.

For the uninitiated, this means that SingPost personnel will come up to your door and pass it to you direct.

Deliveries will start from 2 Oct 2021 between Monday and Fridays. Should you not be home to receive the first delivery, another attempt will be made the following week.

Now, what if you’re not home for both attempts? Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean you’ve forfeited your free vouchers.

The courier will leave a calling card at your home, directing you to collect your vouchers at a specified post office outlet nearby.

For those whose asking why the vouchers can’t be delivered directly to your letterbox, that’s probably because of Grand Theft Auto: Grocery Vouchers Version going on last year.

Here’s The Delivery Schedule:

The delivery will be by postal code, and you can check your area’s delivery dates below:

More Discounts:

Now, to make the deal even sweeter, you get to enjoy even more discounts when you use the vouchers.

At three of the four supermarkets–NTUC Fairprice, Prime Supermarket and Sheng Siong–voucher users can enjoy 5% off all Healthier Choice Symbol products.

This move was done to encourage them to adopt a healthier lifestyle, MOF says.

So, what about Giant? Aren’t they going to do anything?

Well, they’re going one step further.

Instead of 5% off Healthier Choice Symbol products, Giant’s going all-in with a whopping 4% off the entire shopping basket.

The discount will be capped at either S$2 per transaction or up to 4% of the vouchers used, whichever is lower.

Problems? Call The Hotline

Should you have any problems with your vouchers, you can call the Grocery Voucher hotline: 1800-2222-888.

For those who are eligible for the vouchers but have been missed out by the system, you can call the hotline as well by 30 Jun 2022 (for 2021 vouchers).
