Who would have thought that getting vaccinated would ultimately result in one receiving a new HKD$10.8 million (~S$1.87 million) apartment in a vaccination lottery?

Certainly not this 35-year-old chef known as Lee.

He was simply going about his day and waiting to buy lunch when he saw the news regarding a very familiar ID number. He immediately felt nervous and anxious because he was unsure if he had actually won.

His suspicions were later confirmed after he received an official SMS from the organisers saying that he had indeed won an apartment in Kwun Tong.

This came as a very pleasant surprise as Lee had been entering himself in almost all of the vaccination lotteries organised so far, and yet, he had never won anything before.

In fact, because he entered so many lotteries, he didn’t even keep track of the announcement dates.

Of course, all that didn’t matter to Lee now that he has won the biggest prize of all.

When he got the chance to visit his new apartment, he couldn’t help but express his joy and satisfaction at everything.

Raising Vaccination Rates with Lotteries

In an attempt to increase the vaccination rates in Hong Kong, property developer Sino Group’s philanthropic arm, Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) and Chinese Estates Holdings Ltd, decided to hold a vaccination lottery and announce it in May.

They believed that the apartment would definitely be an attractive prize to Hongkongers, noting the insane amount most of them have to spend on a property.

Got Vaccinated for Work

Some may think that Lee got vaccinated because he was motivated by all the vaccination lotteries, but that’s actually not the case.

He revealed that he got his second vaccination in April mainly because of his work in the F&B industry. In the past few months, the lockdowns and curfews placed on establishments have taken a toll on these businesses and ultimately affected his work as well.

More Prizes and Lotteries to be Won

Other than the apartment, the vaccination lottery also has other prizes to be won. 20 individuals have been selected and are set to receive a credit card with a value of HKD$100,000 (~S$17,325) each.

Some of the winners include a Filipina domestic helper, a French student, a manicurist, and a pastry chef.

Sino Group has also announced that it is holding another vaccination lottery for Hong Kong residents who have been vaccinated. However, this time, there is a condition.

The lottery will only go through if five million Hongkongers receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before 30 September 2021.

As of now, about 4.35 million Hongkongers have had their first COVID-19 vaccination.

If the condition is met, the grand prize is yet another apartment in Kwun Tong. The floor area of the unit is about 468 sq ft and is valued at HKD$12 million (~S$2.08 million).

Other than the apartment, the organisers will also be giving out 20 scholarships worth HKD$200,000 (~S$34,647) each to those aged 12 to 18.

With the success of Lee, he revealed that his friends are now also more motivated to participate in such lotteries.

After all, all you have to do to qualify is get vaccinated, right?
