After two years, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) is back in full force, complete with a shiny new logo.

3 and 4 December will mark the return of road racing, as well as the iconic Marathon 42.195km and Half Marathon 21.1km.

What is SCSM?

The SCSM is the leading mass participation run, and the only World Athletics Gold Label race in Southeast Asia.

Running since 2002, the race has brought runners through Singapore’s iconic heritage buildings, landmarks, and city skylines. It has brought the local and regional running community together, with about 50,000 runners annually.

The SCSM has five categories: the Kids Dash, 5km, 10km, Half Marathon 21.1km, and the big boss, the Marathon 42.195km.

Safe Return of Mass Participation Events

Last year’s SCSM was the largest in-person running event held in Singapore since the pandemic started, with lots of safe-management measures in line. Additionally, only the 5km, 10km, and relay categories were in-person to keep participation numbers low at about 4,000.

However, this year’s SCSM is expected to host up to 50,000 over the two days, since many restrictions have been eased. The organisers said that they have full confidence that this year will mark the safe return of mass participation events, and have decided to go full-scale.

In addition to the full range of race categories available, participants can also sign up for the Double Up Challenge. This means that runners can take part in two races: either the 5km or 10km race, and the Half Marathon 21.1km or Marathon 42.195km. They will receive their event finisher medals and an exclusive Double Up Challenge medal when they finish their races.

To celebrate the return of the full SCSM, a new logo was created and unveiled.

The logo includes two of Singapore’s most famous icons, the Merlion and the Orchid. The Merlion signifies the event’s position as a city race, while the Orchid represents hardiness and resilience, symbolic of Singapore’s spirit.

The new logo will be displayed in all merchandise, signages and promotions.

Collaborators of SCSM such as Standard Chartered, Singapore Tourism Board and Sport Singapore expressed their excitement to see the SCSM back in full swing. This event will bring runners from all over the globe to experience the beauty of Singapore, and will cement us as a leading destination for sports in the region. It will also grow and engage the local running community, where Singaporeans of all abilities can have fun racing alongside each other.
