Singapore’s MICHELIN starred dining scene continues to grow as 52 restaurants were awarded stars by the reknowned Michelin Star Guide in 2022.

It is the sixth year that the MICHELIN Guide has awarded stars in Singapore, and the numbers have been creeping up ever since it was introduced.

This year’s ceremony took place on 12 July, Tuesday night, at Singapore’s iconic hotspot: Marina Bay Sands.

This is Michelin’s first physical event in Singapore after a prolonged hiatus as a result of safe-distancing measures imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the star revelation was sadly cancelled due to the restaurants’ prolonged COVID-19 closures, and in 2021, the guide was released online in a livestream.

Now that we have resumed back to a new normal, it is heartening to know that restaurants are alive and kicking as fervently as ever.

So, where are the queues going to be at?

2 New Restaurants Receive Two MICHELIN Stars

All five of last year’s two-star recipients maintained their status, with two new restaurants added to the two-star list on Tuesday.

These are namely Cloudstreet and Thevar- newly minted restaurants who only just received their first one-starred distinction last year.

Telling a tale of multiple cities, Cloudstreet delivers an indelible gastronomic journey by marrying disparate cultures and influencing them in an artistic fashion.

It is a true melting pot, and a restaurant Singapore is certainly proud to host. Thevar, on the other hand, is a creative multi-course restaurant deeply rooted in the Indian heritage.

It features dishes like Korma rach of Lamb and is praised to be an array of uniquely Indian-inspired dishes with a fun and modern gaze.

Seven New Restaurants Made it into the One MICHELIN Star list

Now, these are the new stars that would be crowded this weekend.

The newly minted one-star restaurants are Raffles Hotel’s La Dame de Pic, Japanese restaurant Hamamoto, French-Japanese restaurant Reve and Marguerite at Gardens By The Bay.

Also gaining their first one-star were Burnt Ends which was relocated to Dempsey in December last year, gastro-botanical restaurant Euphoria, helmed by chef Jason Tan (formerly of Corner House fame), and modern Korean restaurant Nae:um, helmed by chef Louis Han. Han was also awarded the Young Chef Award for 2022.

Dropping off the list of one-starred restaurants are Corner House, Garibaldi and Shinji by Kanesaka at The St Regis.

Two restaurants, Esora and Shang Palace, retained their one-star status despite having new chefs.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is the only hawker stall left on the Michelin list, clearly proving the unsung thought in everyone’s minds: Hawker food standards are dropping?
