Put a domestic helper, a wheelchair, an elderly woman and lottery together, what do you get?

A recipe to get Stomped.

A helper had apparently “parked” a wheelchair-bound elderly woman between two stationary cars by the roadside at Serangoon Gardens, then went to buy the lottery.

You guessed it, she got Stomped for it.

“Parked” between two cars

The incident happened in the vicinity of Kensington Park Road.

A member of the public saw a helper leave an elderly woman in between two parked cars while the helper herself was in the queue at a Singapore Pools outlet.

The elderly woman was left alone by the roadside, waiting for the helper, although it is unclear whether the helper was buying lottery for herself or on behalf of the elderly woman.

Regardless, it is not a great look to appear on the Internet as “the helper that left an elderly woman by the roadside to buy lottery”.

Reactions to the Incident

While many netizens concurred that leaving the elderly woman by the roadside alone was unsafe, others tried to step into the helper’s shoes.

Store owners along the road noted that as long as the wheelchair brakes are working fine, it shouldn’t be too dangerous to leave the elderly woman there for some time.

They also added that the helper might have done what she did due to the difficulty of having to push the wheelchair up to the storefronts.

The storefronts are slightly elevated above the road, and from the photos, there does not seem to be any wheelchair ramps in the area.

If you’ve ever had to push someone on a wheelchair before, you would be well aware of how strenuous it is to push someone up a ramp, let alone up to elevated ground without any ramps whatsoever.

The storeowners said that it was unreasonable to expect the helper to have the strength to push the wheelchair up to the elevated storefronts.

At the same time however, they also acknowledged Kensington Park Road was a busy road, with cars driving past frequently.

Leaving the elderly woman between the two stationary cars could potentially be dangerous if the wheelchair brakes were not working properly, as the wheelchair could potentially drift out onto the road.

Fortunately, nothing of the sort had happened, and the elderly woman is safe.
