The world of pop music has been left in mourning following the tragic death of diva Coco Lee. On 5 July 2023, Lee’s life was tragically cut short due to suicide, following a prolonged battle with depression.

Her sister made the heartbreaking revelation via a Facebook post, stating that Lee’s mental health had taken a severe turn for the worse in the preceding months.

This ultimately led to her taking her own life on 2 July, and she tragically passed away three days later.

However, there were also allegations that during her death, she battling cancer as well, and her sister has responded to that.

Coco Lee’s Cancer Battle Revealed

Fans of Coco Lee may recall a health scare in December last year. At the time, it was revealed that she weighed a mere 42kg and was using a drainage bag.

In the aftermath of Coco Lee’s death, her friend and music producer, Jae Chong, made a startling revelation.

He disclosed that Lee had been secretly battling cancer.

This information came as a shock to many, as Lee had not previously disclosed her fight with the disease.

Jae Chong said that Lee had confided in him a few months prior about her secret battle with cancer.

He revealed that she was “suffering from so many different things.”

According to reports from Hong Kong media, Coco Lee was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer the previous year. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor but did not receive chemotherapy afterwards.

Coco Lee’s Final Instagram Post

In her last Instagram post, Coco Lee shared an image of her weight and a picture of the drainage bag attached to her body.

Accompanying these images was a lengthy caption in which she reflected on the challenges of the past year.

She expressed her determination to face 2023 with “good intentions, truth, have faith in what u do, SMILE n choose happy.”

However, she did not provide any context regarding her weight loss or the purpose of the drainage bag.

Coco Lee’s Cancer in Remission at the Time of Her Death

Lee’s sister clarified in an interview that Coco Lee was not actively battling cancer at the time of her death.

Speaking to Taiwan’s United Daily News, she stated, “Her breast cancer was in remission.”

She further revealed that Lee had remained optimistic until about six months prior, when she fell into the grips of depression.

The family is tentatively planning to hold Lee’s funeral in August. As per Hong Kong’s regulations, an autopsy is required to determine the cause of death when the individual did not die of an illness. This process may take between four to six weeks.

As such, the family’s plans for Lee’s funeral are currently tentative and will be confirmed once the autopsy results are available.
