Another new day, another new measure announced.

Reader Bao: What’s it this time? We can’t exhale when we’re in public?

No, not to that extent yet. And this time, it’s not by the authorities but by a company instead.

From Tomorrow (18 Apr) Onwards, You Can’t Go to Any McDonald’s Outlet to Dabao

In recent days, F&B owners have been pleading the public to go down and dabao the food direct from the eateries so as to save on the commission that food delivery platforms would be taking.

McDonald’s, however, is now doing the exact opposite.

From tomorrow onwards, you can’t go to an outlet to dabao.

Here’s their announcement on Facebook:

Lest you can’t read, here’s what they’ve written:

As an added precaution to minimise contact in our restaurants, we will temporarily stop takeaways in our restaurants from Saturday, 18 April 0000 hours till 4 May 2359 hours. Over and above all our precautionary measures implemented from the start, we want to encourage our customers and especially more of our senior employees to continue staying home and staying safe.

Though we won’t be able to serve you in our restaurants for the time being, we want you to know that you can still enjoy your McDonald’s favourites in the comfort of your home when you order at our Drive-Thru locations or via McDelivery® 24/7 (complete with contactless delivery and cashless payment).

We thank you for your support and understanding. Let’s Stay Home, Together.

So, does it have to do with the fact that recently, five of their employees were tested positive for COVID-19?

It doesn’t seem so.

According to McDonald’s Singapore managing director Kenneth Chan, this is a proactive measure to keep both their customers and employees safe.

He added, “By temporarily stopping takeaway service, we can reduce interaction between our customers and employees during this circuit breaker period – and also enable more of our senior employees to stay at home over the next two weeks.”

Those employees who stayed home would still be paid as it is “in appreciation for their support to fight the virus together.”

Whether you’re a fan of the Golden Arches or not, it’s a fact that this would mean they’ll earn less money since they’d have to pay commissions to food delivery platforms now for all their orders, except those in Drive-Thru.

So with that, here’s The Rock clapping for them:

In the meantime, if you intend to have instant noodles for the rest of the Circuit Breaker period because your only comfort food is burgers and instant noodles, don’t. Watch this video and you’d understand:
