We’re 7 days into the Circuit Breaker period, and the number of fake news coming in is as astonishing as the number of new COVID-19 cases.

There’s one that purported that not wearing a mask would warrant a fine lah, there’s one that used an image of a fine slip to repurpose into different fakes news lah, and more.

But one of them have caught many people’s attention because no one knows whether it’s true or not since we’re all stuck at home:

Are police doing roadblocks to check whether everyone in a car lives in the same household?

After all, roadblocks are indeed set up in other countries during this COVID-19 period.

It doesn’t help that WhatsApp messages like these are spreading like wildfire:

If you can’t read, here’s what’s written:

My friend’s son got fine $300 today for sending his friend home. He was stopped during a road block and they checked both their ICs which apparently didn’t match within the same household. The 2nd offense will be $10,000!

Well, the men and women in blue have spoken.

No Roadblocks to Enforce Circuit Breaker Rules

In a statement by the police, they claimed that they’ve not set up roadblocks just to check whether people are complying with the safe-distancing measures.

They said, “The police have not conducted roadblocks specifically to enforce the elevated safe distancing measures, and no passengers have been fined at roadblocks for not complying with these measures.”

The reason why they had roadblocks is to detect offences such as drink-drinking or other offences.

However.

The police added, “Nevertheless, if the police come across motorists and passengers flouting the elevated safe distancing measures when conducting such roadblocks, the police may take enforcement action.”

If you’re suddenly worried, pray tell me: why?

Unless you’re a PHV or taxi driver, what other reasons do you have to have someone else in your car?
