Floating hotels are extremely popular.

It’s frequently featured on any Instagram traveller’s feed and is often touted as a dream destination by world travellers.

But gone are any dreams of going abroad for the time being as the world battles the coronavirus outbreak.

The same can’t be said for these foreign workers though, and that’s a good thing:

Floating Hotels for Foreign Workers Indeed Look Like a Cruise Ship with a Gym & Bar

Around 500 healthy foreign workers who carry out essential services in Singapore will be shifted to floating hotels to keep them safe from the COVID-19 infections.

They will be housed in two floating hotels located in Singapore, and it honestly looks pretty cool.

A Facebook update by transport minister Khaw Boon Wan on 12 April said that the floating hotels are docked off a restricted area in Tanjong Pagar Terminal.

On 9 April, manpower minister Josephine Teo said that foreign workers who are relocated with have limited movement, such as being able to only stay in their rooms and only leave them to collect food or use the toilets.

This seems true as the areas that the foreign workers can visit at the floating hotels also seems to be limited to the areas that the transport minister had visited.

According to Mothership, the open decks on the roofs are one of them.

Floating Hotel: Bibby Progress

One of the floating hotels is named Bibby Progress and has 155 hotel rooms that can accommodate a total of 310 people.

Other Floating Hotel: Bibby Renaissance

The Bibby Renaissance sounds fancy doesn’t it? It’s yet another floating hotel that is reportedly just off Pulau Ubin.

It has a total of 332 hotel rooms and can accommodate as many as 664 people.

It’s quite a bit bigger than the previous floating hotel.

Is Anyone Reminded Of A Cruise Ship?

It actually looks like you’re on vacation on a cruise ship, complete with a bar, gym and even a recreation room.

These floating hotels are described as “self-sufficient” and a logistics solution and are run by Liverpool, a UK-based company Bibby Maritime.

In all seriousness, I’m glad that something is being done to ensure the safety of our foreign workers. In the meantime, stay safe everyone.
