Famous Amos can’t catch a break. Everybody was mourning over McDonald’s and bubble tea and seemed to have forgotten that shops like Famous Amos are also closed.

They even donated cookies to the migrant workers, but nobody noticed because IKEA was cooler or something.

The Very Easy Recipe

According to what she wrote, the recipe is so simple you can even do it together with your kids. Mix using a spoon, and put it into the oven.

Ingredients as below:

  • 250 grams of butter
  • 1 1/4 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cup of wheat flour
  • 1/2 cups of cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate soda
  • 6 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • 2 Cups of chip chocolate
  • Almond nips/almond flakes (optional)

Why are there cups and then suddenly grams? Don’t know. Either way here’s the steps (pictures all from Baizura Muhammad)

1. Combine 250 grams Butter, 1 1/4 cup Brown Sugar, 1 tsp Vanilla Essence, 1 Egg In a Bowl and Mix

Overmixing here is a very common mistake. Don’t use a mixer. Just use a spatula or spoon to mix for one minute and that’s enough.

2. Put The Rest Of the Ingredients Except Chocolate Chips and Almond Nibs, Mix

Same thing here. Don’t need to overmix. Just make sure they’re combined and move to the next step.

3. Chocolate Chips In, Stir

Remember to put a handful into your mouth.

After stirring, it should look like this.

4. If You’re Adding Almonds, Now Is The Time

Again, stir it in.

5. Let Mixture Harden In Fridge For 30 Minutes

Put it in the fridge so it can cool down and harden. Make sure to use a cling wrap so the smell of the fridge doesn’t seep into the dough. You don’t want your cookies smelling like onions do you?

The dough should be slightly harder after 30 minutes. If not, put it slightly longer.

6. Preheat Oven To 150°C. Rub Baking Tray With Butter. Social Distance The Dough.

As long as your tray is generously buttered, there’s no need for baking paper. Just pinch the dough and form them on the tray. There’s no need to flatten or press them as they will flatten as it bakes. Just remember to social distance them.

7. Watch The Cookies Burn Bake

8. Don’t Hand Itchy And Open The Oven

See, it flattened. That’s why if you cook at home, you’re flattening cookies and also flatting the curve.

9. Done

10. Wait For Cookie To Cool Before Storing

If you want to store them in a container, wait for the cookies to cool.

Other Famous Amos Recipes

This isn’t the first time someone has posted a copycat recipe, of course.

Bake for Happy Kids has another recipe you can try here. As does AllRecipes.

But which one is the truly like Famous Amos one? Don’t know. All three are surprisingly different in ingredients, though the Bake for Happy Kids blog does explain her reasoning for her version.

Zoe, the blogger, explains that most reasonably-legit copycat Famous Amos cookies recipes use shortening or vegetable to make their copycat FA cookies crispy, either 1:1 or up to 1:3 fat:sugar proportion, and different brown sugar:caster proportions, either 1:1 or 2:1.

But recipes like that don’t release the sweet buttery toffee-like aroma, aren’t sweet enough, and are quite pale compared to the real ones.

So, some of the improvements to Zoe’s are increasing the proportion of butter, adding more vanilla, and insisting the use of dark brown sugar over light brown sugar.
