There’s one thing that 2020 has definitely made me.

Fatter.

With the circuit breaker, multiple phases and WFH, I may have neglected to exercise and put on some kilograms.

And maybe some of you readers are in the same predicament too.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t do anything about it.

We’ve got a little story today that proves you don’t need to be a gym monster to cut the chub even if you’ve got to stay home for the next few months.

Malaysian Woman Goes Viral

Sometimes, taking the first step is the most important.

A Twitter user who goes by shintyxnn recently uploaded two photos of her in line with the popular “how it started vs how it’s going” trend.

The first photo shows her before her weight loss and another after regularly sticking to her workout routine.

Her post has now gone extremely viral, garnering more than 137,000 likes and over 18,600 retweets as of this writing.

Even shintyxnn herself was in shock and that she was “overwhelmed by the comments.”

Her Secret

Naturally, people were also dying to find out her secret weight loss techniques.

But according to her, there really wasn’t any.

She cited that it was all about hard work, discipline and commitment to wanting to lose weight.

What she does give, however, are pretty useful general tips that she followed.

Firstly, she cut out soft drinks and replaced them with green tea and lemon water.

The author is trying not to cry at his sweetened packet-green tea hoard.

A 34YO “old-virgin” S’porean was desperately looking for a boyfriend and surprisingly, she really found one online. But the intentions of the man will make you cry. Prepare tissue paper to watch this video based on real events:

She also recommends not eating until one felt completely full. To combat this, she put smaller portions of food on her plate instead of having them all at once.

Then, she would refill each time with small portions until she was done. Meal sizes were also cut down to 80% of previous meals.

Seems like a psychological thing, but there are some real benefits to eating this way.

Lastly, shintyxnn also works out two to three times a week, with 20-minute sessions each time.

“I don’t do extreme workouts, just make sure that I sweat enough.”

She also runs on the treadmill while mixing it up with some exercise-related Youtube videos.

The thread ends with her saying that we should go at our own paces and not to give up.

Zero-Calorie Drinks Don’t Count

But some of you might be thinking, “Zero calorie drinks should be ok then, right?”

The too-long-didn’t-read answer is: no.

You can watch this video to the end to understand why that is so (please also subscribe to our YouTube channel for more informative videos!):

Some studies suggest that zero-calorie drinks, while indeed having less sugar, may increase your appetite.

This is done by stimulating hunger hormones, altering sweet taste receptors, and triggering dopamine responses in the brain.

They are also possibly linked to some types of type 2 diabetes and heart problem, which you can find out more through the video or our article here.

Sometimes a little motivation comes a long way, and shintyxnn certainly showed that!

I, too, would also like to motivate myself to exercise…
