If you’ve taken the bus or train at least once in your life, you’re probably seen a couple engaging in PDA, or a public display of affection.

This can include hugging, holding hands, kissing, and hopefully nothing more.

To some, witnessing young love is sweet and heartwarming, as it reminds us of a time when we too were head over heels.

For others, however, it’s an unforgivable sin that requires the immediate attention of the police.

Believe it or not, that’s exactly what one offended uncle demanded on a bus recently.

Man Raged at Students Hugging & Holding Hands on a Bus; Asked Bus Driver to Call Police

A video of a man scolding a couple on a bus for holding hands and hugging made its way to the internet recently.

The video was shared by Stomp yesterday (6 May).

According to the netizen who recorded the incident, the encounter took place on bus 69 en route.

At the start of the video, an uncle who’s seated on the right side turns back towards a couple off-screen on his left and scolds them in Malay.

“Sit still, it’s fasting month,” he says.

Other passengers can be heard telling the couple to say sorry to the uncle, which they apparently did, as one young girl tells the man: “Uncle, they said sorry already”.

Then, one auntie says “give them chance lah”, and others repeat her plea, saying the couple is “still young” and they can learn from their mistakes.

But nothing seems to appease the uncle, as he continues his rant and even asks the bus driver to call the police.

Speaking to Stomp, the witness explained how the incident unfolded.

“This uncle scolded a couple of students for hugging and holding hands on the bus,” he said.

“He kept saying he wanted to call the police and even asked the bus driver to call the police. Other passengers tried to calm him down and even asked the students to say sorry to him.

“Despite that, the uncle still continued to scold them until they alighted from the bus,” he said.

According to Singapore Legal Advicekissing in public is not punishable under Singapore Law.

However, nudity in public places, or appearing in the nude in a private place that can be seen by members of the public is unlawful and can even land you in jail. This includes engaging in sexual acts, of course.

So, in the eyes of the law, this couple on the bus did nothing wrong.

They were just unfortunate that a cranky and crotchety uncle happened to be sitting nearby.
