Vacations abroad are always a time of joy and relaxation, where we can shed all our worries and some responsibilities and simply enjoy life.

But this isn’t always the case for the flights to our destination.

You could end up sitting next to a passenger who thinks it’s morally acceptable to cut their toenails on the flight or be served food that a starving bear would refuse.

Also, since you’re sharing a couple of bathrooms with a hundred people, you might have to wait for quite some time before getting to use the restroom.

Or, if you’re COVID-19-positive, you might have to spend your entire flight inside the toilet.

Woman Stayed in Plane Toilet After She Was Tested Positive for COVID-19

Early childhood teacher Ms Marisa Fotieo had a rather interesting experience in the air recently when she flew from the US to Switzerland.

She travelled with her father and brother, and departed from Chicago, where she’s based. They took an Icelandair flight headed towards Reykjavik.

Sometime after their departure, Ms Fotieo developed a sore throat. In pre-pandemic times, one would simply pop a lozenge and take a nap, but with COVID-19 still running riot around the world, Ms Fotieo thought she should take a test.

So, she retrieved a rapid test kit she had packed and tested herself in the toilet. Of course, it came back positive.

She informed a flight attendant, who then tried to find a seat for her away from other passengers, but the flight was full.

So, there were two options:

  1. Make a U-turn to drop her off, and take off again
  2. Ask her to isolate herself in the bathroom

Given that option number 1 wasn’t exactly feasible, Ms Fotieo took the second option, and remained in the bathroom for the entire flight.

Fully Vaccinated & Boosted

Ms Fotieo is fully vaccinated and has received her booster jab as well. As a teacher, she works with unvaccinated children, and had taken several tests just before leaving, all of which came back negative.

Concerned, she called the parents of the children at her school from the plane’s toilet. She has also uploaded some light-hearted videos of her toilet isolation.

Fortunately, both her brother and 70-year-old father have tested negative for the virus. Upon her arrival in Iceland, she spent 10 days in isolation before she was cleared. And this time, she spent her isolation period in a significantly less shitty place—a quarantine facility.
