Calling all Apple iPhone regulars. This combination is sure to shake up your world.

Recently, according to people familiar with the situation, Apple is in talks to build Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) engine into the iPhone.

Wondering what Gemini AI is?

Gemini AI is an AI chatbot tool designed by Google to simulate human conversations using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning. As stated from Gemini AI’s website, when you enter a prompt into Gemini, it replies with a response using the information it already knows or fetches from other sources, like other Google services.

On the other hand, I’m sure all of you are already familiar with Apple, but I’ll introduce it anyway.

Apple is an American computer and consumer electronics company famous for creating the iPhone, iPad and Macintosh computers; it is one of the biggest technological companies in the world.

What happens when you combine technological softwares of two mega corporations together? Well, we’re about to find out.

All About Apple and AI

AI has already dominated many industries in the world, hence it creeping into Apple’s plans for the future somehow isn’t very surprising anymore, this is especially true with Apple’s own ventures into the world of Artificial Intelligence.

According to CNN, Apple researchers say they’ve developed a family of multimodal models — which refers to an AI system that can interpret and generate different types of data, such as text and images at the same time — called MM1. If you’re interested, more in-depth information about these language models can be found in this lengthy report.

Shocked that Apple is developing its own AI and collaborating with others? Me too.

Furthermore, as stated by The Business Times, Apple is said to have also recently held discussions with Microsoft-backed OpenAI and has considered using its model. OpenAI is the corporation behind the famous ChatGPT, an AI chatbot that uses natural language processing to create humanlike conversational dialogue.

All this goes to show that Apple is finally joining the AI race after the past few years of staying relatively dormant in its progress (besides SIRI). Other contenders in this AI race that Apple will have to contend with include Huawei, Sony, LG, Xiaomi, and many more.

Apple’s next technological models, including the iPhone IOS 18, may just include both global powerhouses OpenAI and Gemini AI. New features may include generative AI features, including functions for creating images and writing essays based on simple prompts.

Even Apple CEO Tim Cook has teased this collaboration. In February during an annual shareholder meeting, he cited that there is “incredible breakthrough potential for generative AI, which is why we’re [they’re] currently investing significantly in this area.”

However, despite the numerous talks of a collaboration, it is unlikely that any deal will be announced until Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June.

Still, let’s be optimistic for the iPhone IOS 18 which is predicted to launch this year in mid-September, it may just be the new superhuman phone.
