COVID-19 isn’t just destroying people’s health—it’s also killing jobs.

Even if you don’t have a friend who’s infected with the coronavirus, you’d have a friend who’s received a pay cut or lost his or her job after COVID-19 wreaked havoc in the economy.

If not, you most probably have no friends at all.

As workers all over Singapore worry whether pay would still come in, employees in a bank are going to get an additional amount.

Introducing: Citi Singapore.

Citibank Giving $1,200 Cash to Each Employee Which Will Be Credited In Their Account This Month

Okay, I took a bit of liberty with the headline since it’s technically Citi, but in case people got confused and associate it with my colleague Siti, we’re going to use a more familiar household name instead: Citibank.

If it’s confusing, just know this: Citi owns Citicorp, and Citicorp is the holding company for Citibank.

The company that VR Man has worked in before is giving $1,200 to around 1,600 Singapore employees as a “one-off special compensation award” to ease the impact caused by COVID-19.

This will only be valid for staff with a base annual income of $70,000 or below (i.e. less than $5,833 per month).

And the amount would be credited to their Citibank accounts this month.

The move is expected to cause the US MNC about $2 million.

So if you’ve a friend who works in Citibank, do ask him or her for a meal. Though you’d have to do it after 4 May 2020 lah.

Other Benefits for Employees

Over in Goody Feed, we have only one benefit after the COVID-19 hit us: we get to work at home.

And it’s because the gahmen forced us to do so.

Though I’m starting to feel the strain now because my boss is not going to pay my electricity bills.

And it’s the same for many other companies out there. I’d go out on a limb and say that we should count our blessings that we’re still getting paid.

Boss: Did I say that?

No, but it’s okay, I love my job so much that I’ll pay the company for letting me work.

However, over in Citi Singapore, they took it to a whole new level.

For a start, they’re allowing people to carry their annual leave that they’ve accumulated last year to be used until the end of this year, when it should be used by 31 March 2020.

They would also refund season parking fees for employees who had bought them for April and May in their offices at Asia Square and Changi Business Park.

For your info, the monthly season parking over in workplaces are usually much higher than HDB—for example, the season parking at Asia Square is $535 a month.

It’s good to see companies going all out to help their employees during this period.

Boss: Am I not treating you well?

Of course not. I love paying the company to stay employed. It makes me feel useful.
