You think of an old, hardworking man slaving away all day to make good quality products for his loyal customers.

But for some strange reason, when you put the same old carpenter behind the wheel of a car, they turn into murderous sociopaths.

Elderly Who Attacked Motorcyclist With Hacksaw In Road Rage Incident Jailed Two Weeks

A 71-year-old carpenter was jailed for two weeks on Jan 28 after pleading guilty to one charge for voluntarily causing hurt.

On 18 March last year, Sim was in a lorry driven by his 66-year-old brother, who’s also a carpenter.

They were driving along Telok Blangah Road in the evening when his brother suddenly swerved into the lane of a motorcyclist without signalling.

I know, I know, next to genocide, changing lanes without signalling is the worst thing a human can do.

So, naturally, while he managed to swerve to the right and avoid a collision, the motorcyclist was upset. He was riding with his wife as pillion at the time, according to The New Paper.

After the near-collision, the motorcyclist knocked on the lorry’s window twice, presumably just to say a friendly hello.

Road rage

Angered, Sim’s brother opened the door and hit the motorcycle, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown off.

They started arguing as a result, and at this point, Sim had two options.

1) Continue to argue with him until they both calm down

2) Forget the incident, drive off, and move on with his life

Unfortunately, Sim went for secret option 3 – attack the motorcyclist with a bladeless metal hacksaw.

Where did he even get a bladeless metal hacksaw, you ask? Well, he is a carpenter, after all. He probably has many sharp tools in his lorry, just in case he needs to do some emergency carpentry on the road.

QUICK, MY CAR DOOR IS WONKY, IS THERE A CARPENTER HERE?

So, as I was saying. Sim alighted from the lorry and retrieved a bladeless metal hacksaw measuring about 0.5m.

He then hit the motorcyclist on the wrist and shoulder with it.

The motorcyclist tried to defend himself by swinging his hands and hit Sim on the head. The lovebirds were eventually separated and the police seized the hacksaw as an exhibit.

The Aftermath

Both Sim and the victim were taken to the hospital, and the victim was given four days of medical leave for his injuries on the wrist, shoulder, and chest.

As for Sim, he suffered a cut on his face but was discharged without medical leave.

In addition to his two-week jail sentence, Sim was ordered to pay compensation of $121 to the victim for his medical bills, or be jailed an additional day in default.

Sim’s brother has been handed a similar charge, but his case is still before the courts.

For voluntarily causing hurt, Sim could have been jailed for up to three years, or fined up to $5,000, or both.

Some advice

If you’re a driver, you’re probably aware that people tend to develop homicidal tendencies while on the road.

Even if you’re not in the wrong, is it really productive to start a fight or start raging?

Here’s some advice: the next time you feel the dormant Ted Bundy inside you awaking after a road mishap, take a few deep breaths before you make any rash decisions.

And if you’re a carpenter, do not leave a bladeless metal hacksaw in your car.
