Remember when the “old dude” from Squid Game asked what someone with no money has in common with someone with too much money?

We have the answer now: They’re all waiting for the release of Squid Game 2.

The wait is finally (almost) over. Netflix Korea recently announced that Squid Game 2 is coming soon.

Netflix Korea Announces Squid Game 2; Four New Actors to Join the Original Cast

Unless you were living under a rock, you’ve probably already watched the first season of the South Korean survival drama series.

The “Hide and Seek” song probably still sends chills down your spine.

In that case, you’ll probably be more frightened than enlivened by Netflix Korea’s announcement of the television series’ return for a second season.

On Saturday (17 June), Netflix announced that Squid Game’s original cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo, will be joined by four new cast members for Squid Game 2.

These four new actors are Yim Siwan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun.

Sian… Don’t have Tony Leung ah?

Not sure who these actors are? It’s alright; all you need to know is that it’s a stacked cast—they’ve all acted in Netflix shows in the past couple of years.

According to Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game’s director, shooting for Squid Game 2 will begin in the second half of 2023.

The wait won’t be long now; you can expect to see the second season of the drama series on Netflix in 2024.

If you’re part of the group who hasn’t watched Squid Game before, here’s why you should.

It isn’t your usual cheesy South Korean drama. The show scored big at the Emmy Awards 2022, including 14 nominations for the cast and crew.

Squid Game eventually brought home six Emmys.

Still not convinced to give Squid Game a shot?

Well, one of the Emmys swept by Squid Game was brought home by lead actor Lee Jung-jae, the first Asian actor to win an Emmy for lead actor in a drama series.

Squid Game was also the first time a non-English language drama was awarded an Emmy for “Oustanding Directing for a Drama Series”.

Squid Game literally made history—how could you not watch it?

Thanks to Squid Game’s success, we’re now seeing more Korean oppas on the streaming platform. Netflix has already made plans to invest US$2.5 billion (S$3.3 billion) in South Korean content over the next four years.

Perhaps there’ll be Squid Game 3, 4, 5, and more in the future.
