Many individuals and businesses have been negatively impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

This has been the case for many months now and should be glaringly obvious.

However, on 7 April, when the circuit breaker measures come into effect, private-hire vehicle drivers like Grab drivers will take even more of a hit as Singaporeans are encouraged to stay at home.

Thankfully, Grab is going to help them by introducing even more measures.

Everything That Grab is Doing to Help Drivers During Circuit Breaker Period

Grab has just announced additional COVID-19 support measures for its drivers.

They announced on their website that they are “providing ongoing and additional partner relief initiatives aimed at assisting drivers.”

They will be able to do this by asking that Grab leaders take a pay cut of up to 20% to help business and partners get through the coronavirus pandemic.

At the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, Grab was already working with the government to fund measures in order to help support driver and delivery partners impacted by the crisis.

However, these measures are not sufficient given the rapid way in which the coronavirus situation is involving. This has prompted governments to impose stricter measures, including movement restriction.

In Singapore, Grab has acknowledged the need to step up their measures in light of the recent movement restrictions and social distancing.

These enhanced measures aim to help alleviate the financial strain that the community of partners are going through during the pandemic.

Expanded Partner Relief Initiatives

Anthony Tan, Group CEO and Co-Founder of Grab said, “our top priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on our platform and we are grateful for our partners who continue to provide essential services during these trying times.”

“We want to do our part to support our partners. Thus, we have expanded our Partner Relief Initiatives to aid partners most directly impacted by this crisis.”

  • Senior Grab leaders will take a pay cut of up to 20% to help partners financially.
  • Partner Relief Initiatives will be partly funded by voluntary Grab employee donations matched dollar-for-dollar by the company

Existing Measures In Place

Some of the existing measures that have already been put into place include “financial assistance and rental waivers for driver-partners who are hospitalised due to COVID-19, insurance protection against the disease and providing eligible driver-partners with earnings support.”

Grab has also given out over 1 million masks and hand sanitizers across the region.

But that’s not all that they’re doing. Grab will be launching initiatives to offer even more financial assistance.

More Financial Assistance To Grab Drivers

Based on Grab’s press release, this includes providing even more coverage of Grab’s COVID-19 financial assistance scheme to most of the countries that Grab operates in, including Singapore.

The scheme pays out a sum to driver or delivery partners who are hospitalized or quarantined due to a COVID-19 diagnosis.

They will also create additional earning opportunities for partners.

Due to customers staying home more, there is an increase in demand for food, parcels and daily essentials delivery and a fall in ride-hailing business.

Grab has thus expanded the GrabAssistant and GrabMart services, which will provide driver-partners with the ability to fulfil delivery orders and allow them to access other earning opportunities through the Grab platform.
