Apart from checking to see if the things you bought online before the Goods and Services Tax (GST) hike have arrived, you’ve probably been checking your phone for another thing:

CDC vouchers.

And if you haven’t been on the lookout for them, yes, they’re back.

With the rise in GST from 7% to 8% from this year onwards, the five Community Development Councils (CDC) and the People’s Association (PA) announced that every household in Singapore would receive an additional $300 in CDC vouchers this year.

In particular, families can use half of their vouchers ($150) to buy items from participating supermarkets. At the same time, the other $150 will be reserved for families to purchase items from participating hawkers and heartland merchants.

The participating supermarkets are NTUC FairPrice, Sheng Siong, Prime, Hao Mart, and U Star.

But the CDC vouchers aren’t the only kind of vouchers that you’ll be able to use at NTUC FairPrice in the upcoming weeks.

In fact, NTUC FairPrice just announced today that you’ll be able to receive more vouchers if you use CDC vouchers to pay at their supermarkets.

Here’s what you need to know.

NTUC FairPrice to Issue Vouchers

From now until 15 January, NTUC FairPrice will be issuing customers $6 worth of FairPrice vouchers when they use their CDC vouchers to buy items from the supermarket.

The only thing you need to do is spend at least $55 in CDC Supermarket vouchers at NTUC FairPrice in one transaction.

As for the vouchers, all of them will have a standardised expiry date of 28 February 2023.

The distribution of these vouchers was announced in support of the launch of the 2023 CDC Vouchers scheme, which took place during an event held at Kampung Admiralty today (3 January).

“FairPrice renews our commitment to moderate the cost of living as we welcome the new year by seeking new ways to help the community save more. Apart from participating in the 2023 CDC Vouchers scheme, we are taking an extra step to also provide additional FairPrice vouchers for customers to purchase their daily essentials,” Mr Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of FairPrice Group, explained.

“This complements the various discount schemes available at FairPrice for customers to maximise their savings. We continue to keep food and daily essentials available and affordable for all,” he added.

Other Discount Schemes at NTUC FairPrice

Apart from the vouchers NTUC FairPrice will be issuing, shoppers can also expect various discount schemes when shopping at NTUC FairPrice supermarkets.

Which also means that stocking up on your favourite snacks won’t be an issue, even with the GST hike.

On Mondays, the PG Discount Scheme will entitle members of the Pioneer Generation (PG) to a 3% discount.

Seniors (60 years and older) will be given a 2% discount on Tuesdays as part of the Seniors Discount Scheme.

The PG Discount Scheme is also available on Wednesdays alongside the MG (Merdeka Generation) Discount Scheme, where members of both generations will enjoy a 3% discount off NTUC FairPrice items.

On Thursdays, individuals with blue CHAS cards will get 3% off items at NTUC FairPrice under the CHAS Blue Discount Scheme.

Last but not least, NTUC will also be offering a special GST discount of 1% for 500 essential items from 1 January to 30 June 2023 to offset the GST hike.

In total, these discount schemes managed to help Singaporeans save more than $11.5 million last year.

The abovementioned discounts are available at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice On Wheels and Unity pharmacies. They can be redeemed in conjunction with the $6 vouchers issued by NTUC FairPrice.

More Discount Schemes for Selected Products

And that’s not all.

If you recall, NTUC FairPrice implemented various schemes such as the Greater Value Every Day initiative and discounts for eggs, oil and rice to help shoppers save more in the past.

And now, it’s no different.

Right now, NTUC FairPrice has the Everyday Low Price scheme, where 500 popular daily essentials will be sold at affordable prices to “provide the best value to the community”.

According to NTUC FairPrice, these items include “daily essentials, fresh produce, and crowd-favourite products”.

Out of the 500 items, the price of 50 items will be frozen for a month, meaning that they’ll be available for that low price throughout the entire month.

New items that fall under the Everyday Low Price scheme will also be announced every last Thursday of each month, so you’ll get to buy different things for low prices every month! Talk about variety.

Apart from that, the “Price Drop Buy Now” scheme by NTUC FairPrice will also allow you to purchase selected products for as low as half their original price.

The list of products will be updated every Thursday, and discounts of up to 50% will be offered.

Last but not least, the “New & Exclusive” items at NTUC FairPrice will feature new and exclusive products priced at “good value”. These products include Gift-With-Purchase offers.

The Everyday Low Price, Price Drop Buy Now and New & Exclusive schemes will be available at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice On Wheels and FairPrice Online stores islandwide.

These discounts will also be applied even when you use your $6 voucher from NTUC FairPrice, so be sure to head down to your nearest NTUC FairPrice supermarket today!
