Did you see a huge fireball in the sky last afternoon?

No, a fire-breathing dragon hasn’t mysteriously appeared. The fireball was actually due to an explosion in a JB factory.

Here’s what happened.

Fire At Synthetic Rubber Plant Led To Explosion

CNA reported that a fire at a Lotte Ube Synthetic Rubber plant at Tanjung Langsat led to an explosion on 24 February.

The plant is jointly owned by South Korean petrochemical producer Lotte Chemical, Malaysia’s Lotte Chemical Titan, Japanese firms Ube Industries and Mitsubishi.

Additionally, a Taman Pasir Putih police station spokesperson also said that firefighting efforts were still ongoing at 8:30pm.

The Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station had received a call at around 5:15pm to attend to a fire at the factory.

Given how the fire started in the late afternoon, you can guess the severity of it if it was still raging at night.

The staff informed the fire department that two workers suffered light injury after their hands were scalded by explosion debris. They were taken to a nearby clinic for treatment.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Fireball Could Be Seen Even in Singapore

Some witnesses in Singapore, especially in the Punggol and Pasir Ris areas, who saw the fireball got so concerned that they reported the incident to our authorities.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they received multiple calls about a major fire incident in the northeast region of Singapore. They confirmed that the fireball did not come from any incident within Singapore.

This was what people in Malaysia saw…
