As I was saying, while Ikea has delicious hot dogs and delectable Swedish desserts, their meatballs are the one item on its menu that everyone loves.

But with the circuit breaker measures in place, we have to say goodbye to those beloved meatballs for the time being as everyone is stuck at home.

Thankfully, Ikea has a simple solution to this problem: teach everyone how to make their very own Ikea meatballs.

IKEA Just Released Its Iconic Meatball Recipe With Illustrated Instructions

As you know, people are not allowed to dine-in at eateries during the circuit breaker period.

And over in Singapore, IKEA is closed as well.

“We know that some people might be missing our meatballs, which is why we’ve released an at-home alternative which, using easily accessible ingredients, will help those looking for some inspiration in the kitchen,” says Lorena Lourido, Food Manager at IKEA.

Now, there’s a person who knows what matters most to us during a lockdown: meatballs.

“Staying at home can be hard, but we want to help make everyone’s lives that little bit easier and more enjoyable. Bon appétit or, smaklig måltid, as we say in Sweden!” she said.

Before I reveal the recipe, I thought this would be a good time to remind everyone to be kind to each other and practise lov-

If you can’t see the image above, here are some basic instructions to make the dish.

Method for meatballs

Mix beef and pork mince thoroughly to break up any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, and mix.

Then add milk and season well with salt and pepper.

Shape the mixture into small, round balls. Place them on a clean plate, cover it and store in the fridge for 2 hours (to help them hold their shape whilst cooking).

Then heat oil on a frying pan on medium heat.

When hot, gently add your meatballs and brown on all sides. When browned, add to an ovenproof dish and cover. Place in a hot oven (180°C or 160°C fan) and cook for a further 30 minutes.

And then you need that creamy rich sauce.

Method for Swedish Cream Sauce

Melt 40g of butter in a frying pan. Whisk in 40g of plain and continue cooking, stirring continuously for two minutes, allowing the flour to cook through.

Add 150ml of vegetable stock and 150ml of beef stock and continue to stir. Add 150ml thick double cream, two teaspoons of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken. Continue to stir. When ready to eat, serve with your favourite potatoes – either creamy mash or mini new boiled potatoes.

And that’s it! Now all you have to do is pretend you’re in a confined space with other rude Singaporeans bumping into your for seats and it’ll feel like you’re in IKEA!
