The most horrifying thing, next to realising you forgot your backpack after you’ve left the house and are already running late, is realising that you’ve left your backpack on the bus. 

Perhaps it’s even more horrifying because you’d be wondering how exactly to get it back—once the bus is on its way, you’d have to go through fire and water to locate it again. 

This is the scare that a man received after realising that he accidentally left his backpack on the bus.

Thankfully, he had the help of an SMRT employee who went above and beyond to help him get his belongings back. 

Passenger Was Reunited with his Bag After SMRT Staff Went Above and Beyond to Get it Back

Stomper Anonymous said that on 25 Mar, he boarded SBS Transit bus service 195 to Tiong Bahru Plaza.

He said that he was “careless” when disembarking from the bus and left his backpack on the seat. He realised that his backpack was not with him while entering the mall. 

He did not take note of the license plate number of the bus, so he was uncertain about contacting the bus company for help. He then rushed over to the nearby Tiong Bahru MRT station and sought assistance at the information desk. 

There, he met Mr Adam, who helped him to contact the SBS Transit’s lost and found hotline. 

Several calls were made and eventually they got in touch with Marina Centre Bus Terminal, which was the final stop of service 195. 

The bus had not yet arrived at its final stop at the time, so they had to wait for another 15 minutes for the Marina Centre Bus Terminal to contact them again. 

Luckily, the story has a happy ending—the passenger was thankfully reunited with his backpack after all the fuss. 

Full of praise for the helpful SMRT employee, he said, “I am grateful to Mr Adam for sparing no effort to help him. He is very professional and I am full of admiration for him.”

What To Do If You Have Left Your Belongings on the Bus 

If you’ve happened to leave something on the bus, here’s what you should do. 

You can contact SMRT for assistance with Lost & Found items at 1800 336 8900 from 7:30am to 8:00pm daily. 

You can also click here to lodge a report if you’ve lost something on the bus. 

Do note that all items that have not been claimed after three months from the date of the report will be either disposed of or donated to charity. 

According to SMRT, 881 items were found on SMRT buses in January 2021, and they have not been claimed. Items that have not been claimed by 5 May will be disposed of or donated to charity.
