Not sure what was so auspicious about Monday that not one, but two individuals decided to brandish their weapons in public.

We have all heard about the man who wielded his sword at oncoming traffic in Buangkok, but just further down south at Queenstown, another man chose a razor blade as his weapon of choice against some innocent civilians.

Attacked Passers-by With a Razor Blade

The 33-year-old man allegedly injured others with a razor blade and will be charged by the police with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

At about 6.20pm on Monday (14 March), just a few hours after the incident at Buangkok, the police received multiple calls about a man attacking some passers-by with a razor blade at Block 59 Strathmore Avenue.

Preliminary investigations show that the man claimed to have heard voices in his head telling him to attack people.

Similar to the man at Buangkok, the aggressor also has past records with the Institute of Mental Health, and is “traced for consumption of controlled drugs”.

Injuries Caused

Prior to his arrest, the man had injured two people, the police said in a news release late on Monday night.

A 38-year-old man suffered lacerations and was conscious when taken to hospital. Another 49-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and refused to go to hospital.

The razor blade was seized as a case exhibit and investigations are ongoing.

The man will be charged in court on Wednesday (the same day as the sword-wielding man) with the offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

For the offence, he could face imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

Unrelated to Sword Incident

For two violent attacks to occur on the same day just hours away from each other, it surely would not be a coincidence, right?

Well, according to the police, there is no indication that the razor blade incident is related to the one near Buangkok Square Mall, where another man was seen swinging a sword and stopping oncoming traffic.

Maybe the prolonged pandemic has taken a toll on some of us, but regardless, no one should take it out on innocent members of the public.

Hopefully, fewer of these incidents will occur, lest our country loses its reputation of being safe.
