You win sum, you dim sum.

That’s certainly the case for those staying on the east side of Singapore.

Sure, they might take a long time to travel anywhere else in Singapore, but they’re also going to be getting access to some good dimsum soon enough.

Dimsum Restaurant Swee Choon Announces 2nd Outlet Opening at Century Square

If you’re a dimsum lover, you’ve probably heard of the popular homegrown dimsum restaurant, Swee Choon.

Then you might also know, that they’ve recently revealed the opening of their 2nd outlet.

On 10 June, an Instagram story was shared by Century Square on their Instagram page, announcing that the restaurant would be coming to the east.

Posted with a picture of renovation works in progress, the story was captioned “Psst! Stay tuned as @sweechoon.sg makes its way to the East very soon!”

The news was confirmed by Swee Choon two hours later, when they reposted the story on their own Instagram story with the caption “Hello Easties, the “secret” is out! We are coming to Tampines!”

Other than this initial announcement, no other details regarding its official opening date and opening hours have been revealed at this point.

Prior to this announcement of its second outlet, the Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant had been operating from its sole outlet located at Jalan Besar. The restaurant has since expanded from a single shophouse unit to six connecting shophouse units currently.

Founded in 1962 by Ting Ah Swee and his wife, the business has been passed through generations to reach third-generation owner Ernest Ting.

Previous Plans to Expand Shelved Due to COVID-19

Back in June last year, it was revealed that a second outlet was meant to open at Nex Mall in April 2020. However, the opening of the outlet had been postponed due to the pandemic.

Instead, Swee Choon launched its frozen dim sum series and made it available for delivery. They also opened a cloud kitchen at Tampines Food Co. which also featured a 60-seater dine-in area.

This year early May, 30-year-old Earnest Ting has hinted at his plans for expansion in an interview with Business Times. According to Mothership, Ting had said that they were planning for new outlets in the second half of 2021, in order to be “closer to the heartlands”.

Not only does the third-generation owner have big plans for local expansion, it seems like he also has plans in mind for Swee Choon’s international expansion.

“In the next three to five years, we are also expecting to grow at a rate of 20 to 25 per cent annually, up from 10 to 15 per cent in the past years,” said Mr Ting in the interview with Business Times.
