The lifts might be a nightmare for those with claustrophobia. The small moving box not only gives one anxiety but the sudden flicker of the light in a lift can send one into a panic attack as well.

But you know who had it worst? The one fixing the lift.

Previous Accidents: Lift Technician Dies While Carrying Out Repair Works

This isn’t the first accident reported this year.

A 29-year-old lift technician died on 27 Feb while carrying out repair works at a building in North Bridge Road.

The accident occurred at 450 North Bridge Road, according to CNA.

The Bangladeshi national was conducting repair work on the top of the lift carriage when it suddenly ascended, trapping the man.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police said they were alerted to the accident at about 11.30am.

SCDF said that extricating the man from the narrow gap was a “highly complex and delicate” operation.

It required SCDF’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) and fire station personnel to operate rescue equipment within the confined space of the lift shaft.

An emergency medical team from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) also arrived on the scene to provide assistance.

Sadly, despite the authorities’ best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5.30pm by the TTSH team.

The case has been classed as an unnatural death. Police and MOM investigations are ongoing.
