The pandemic has caused many of us to miss travelling. As a result, some of us may have had our dreams of working in airlines dashed. However, there is good news in store.

SIA Resumes Cabin Crew Recruitment

After a two-year hiring freeze, the National carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) is continuing its search for cabin crew.

Before you gleefully make your way to their headquarters, it’s good to know that you should apply through their website

The SIA spokesperson said on Saturday (12 Feb) that the airline is currently recruiting to “meet manpower requirements”. This comes after a “hiring freeze” on all ground positions in February 2020.

A sign of the aviation industry picking up, this spells good news after it was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recruitment drive might promise more positions — the company needs to account for the people who left at the height of the pandemic.

Not only is SIA welcoming newcomers, but they are also opening doors to former cabin crew interested in rejoining the company.

And as far as it goes, SIA has been in contact with those affected by the job cut in September 2020. For those who are not aware, the company cut 4,300 positions across its three airlines back then.

These airlines are SIA, SilkAir and Scoot.

However, as with most selection processes, SIA is to select candidates “based on merit and suitability.”

Increasing Travel Capacity

In the same response, the airline added, “Most of our pilots and cabin crew have returned to active duty.”

We seem to be one step closer to normality — the company is increasing its capacity and fulfilling the increasing travel demands.

In Jan 2022, almost 600,000 passengers flew on SIA’s planes, which is double the figure in December 2021.

Well, at this point, it is safe to conclude that the aviation industry is taking flight.

Not to mention, international travel is also picking up around the globe.

If you catch yourself wanting to travel, just know that there are quite a few countries that have a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with Singapore.
