Just three weeks ago, everything was fine and dandy in Italy.

Back then, Italy only had three Covid-19 cases. People were eating pasta, drinking their espressos, and occasionally communicating with their hands.

Ok, I’ve never actually been to Italy, but I’m guessing that’s what people do there, based on racist TV shows. What I was trying to say, is that things were normal back then.

But not anymore.

With a total of 21,157 cases and over 1,200 deaths, Italy now has the highest number of Covid-19 cases outside China.

As a result of the rapid spread, the Italian authorities recently ordered a nationwide lockdown, ordering their 60 million citizens to stay at home.

And now, Spain is following suit.

Spain is Now Also on Almost Full Lockdown That’ll Affect 46 Million People

Spain has imposed a near-total nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus, following a huge spike in the number of infections.

People are now banned from leaving their homes except to go to work, get medical care, or buy food.

Does getting a donut count?

This lockdown was introduced as part of a 15-day state of emergency officially declared by his government on Saturday (14 Mar), reported CNA.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced the decision in a televised address after a cabinet meeting that lasted more than seven hours.

If you think you can sneakily leave your homes to get that donut you’re craving, think again; police officers will ensure the restrictions on people’s movements are obeyed, said the prime minister.

“The measures which we have adopted are drastic and will unfortunately have consequences … but our hand will not shake to prevail against the virus,” Sanchez said.

“We will win this battle … but it is important that the price we pay for this victory be as little as possible.”

Spain now has a total of 5,753 cases, the second-highest number in Europe after Italy. Even Begona Gomez, Sanchez’s wife, has contracted the disease.

The virus has claimed 183 lives in Spain so far.

Outbreak will Affect Businesses

As you know, the Covid-19 outbreak has affected businesses all over the world, and Spain is no different.

Sanchez said he is aware that these measures will have a major impact on citizens and businesses, but promised that the government will do what they can to help.

“I want to tell the workers, the self-employed, and businesses that the government of Spain is going to do everything in its power to cushion the effects of this crisis,” he said.

All we can hope for now is that the situation improves and that Pornhub decides to give free premium access to Spanish citizens too.
