You’re not satisfied with bubble teayou want moar. Yes, you being the self-indulgent bubble tea freak that you undeniably are, crave for something more than a paltry plastic cup of bubble tea that’ll be done in minutes. You want something more… everlasting. More practical. Something that you could spam to showcase your near-demonic love of Taiwan’s favourite drink…

Yes folks, your wildest dreams have come true. At a time when millions around the world are busy freaking out over the Chinese version of a zombie outbreak, the masterminds behind your favourite emojis have devised a cure. Not the cure for the Wuhan pathogen, unfortunately, but a cure appealing to the most depraved bubble tea fanatic out there:

An honest to goodness, geezus almighty, boom shakalaka bubble tea emoji.

There is Finally Going to be a Bubble Tea Emoji for 2020 (& Cockroach, Too)

According to blog.emojipedia.org, the 2020 roster for emojis is now complete, with a whopping 117 emojis making the final cut for release this year.

The list includes the Smiling Face With Tear, Bottle-Feeding Parents, Transgender Flag and Bubble Tea emojis.

And for some reason, a cockroach emoji has been included as well.

Why a cockroach emoji would ever be approved is beyond me, but hey, with the state the world’s stranded in right now I don’t think you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who digs the emoji.

Spamming that cockroach emoji when conversing with an anti-cockroach middle-aged man, probably.

Variations

According to the same report, Emojipedia is introducing sample images for each of the new emojis approved, as part of this list.

Of the new drafted roster, variations of existing emojis now approved for 2020 include a woman or gender-inclusive person in a tuxedo, and a gender-neutral person or a man in a veil. These emojis will be arriving on our phones later this year, alongside other approved emojis.

And for all the gender-neutral advocators out there, there will be a gender-inclusive alternative to Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus named Mx. Claus. This addition is believed to be part of an ongoing effort to implement a more consistent set of gender options across the board, and seeks to expand upon the 138 new gender-neutral emojis incorporated in late 2019 as part of Emoji 12.1.

Coming To Most Platforms This Latter Part Of 2020

Announced today by the Unicode Consortium, the 117 new emojis constitute part of Emoji 13.0 and will arrive on most platforms in the latter half of 2020. Unicode has also posted data files and charts for Emoji 13.0, with sample images displayed in the charts for vendor guidance.

For a gradual introduction of each unique emoji, you may peruse the tweet-inscribed video down below:

These new emojis will come to devices in software updates throughout the entirety of 2020, with most expected to arrive in the latter half of 2020.

Should past years be referenced, one could anticipate for the emojis to come to Android in beta around August, and to iOS and macOS in October or November.

Not exactly a short wait, but I think we can hold out that long for a goddamn bubble tea emoji.
