When a video of an incident is posted online, netizens very rarely make it a point to find out what happened before drawing their own conclusions.

This is why when an Instagram story showing a group of police officers talking to an elderly woman was shared in May, people assumed the officers were bullying her. In reality, they were simply reminding her to wear her mask, and even bought food for her.

That incident taught us that it’s important to find out what exactly happened before making assumptions.

And surprisingly, netizens didn’t jump to conclusions when a similar video emerged recently.

Viral Video Shows Several Police Officers Pinning Man Down at Petrol Station

A video of several officers pinning down a man at a petrol station has gone viral on social media.

Shared on the Facebook page Beh Chia Lor, it has been viewed over 147,000 times.

The short 14-second video begins with five officers struggling with a man as they attempt to bring him down to the ground.

Once they manage to bring him down, the officers pin him down to restrict his movement. The man can be heard swearing at the officers at this point, calling one of them a “f**ker*.

Despite the misleading headline that “8 to 10 officers” were seen pinning down the man, commenters were level-headed in their responses.

Others pointed out that it’s not easy to bring down a struggling suspect, and that the use of excessive force can sometimes cause injury.

Man Had Failed Breathalyser Test

Police officers don’t just go around pinning people down for no reason, of course.

It’s now revealed that it all started when the police received a call for assistance yesterday (2 Nov) at 7:26 am. They were called to 141 Bukit Timah Road, which is the address of an Esso petrol station in Newton.

Officers conducted a breathalyser test when they found the man as he reeked of alcohol. When he failed the test, officers informed him that he’ll be arrested for drink driving.

As officers attempted to arrest him, the man allegedly shouted vulgarities at the officers, challenged the officers to a fight, and resisted arrest.

“Necessary force was used to restrain him,” the police said.

In the end, the man was arrested for a number of offences, namely:

  • suspected drink driving
  • using abusive language against a public servant
  • using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty

He’s also accused of providing false particulars to the officers, which is punishable by law as well. Investigations are ongoing.
