Singapore has been hard at work trying to expand healthcare capacity in the past few weeks.

Drivers were drafted to be non-emergency ambulances for suspect Covid-19 cases.

Buses were modified to ferry Covid-19 patients between facilities.

And now, they’re looking to get volunteers for their Healthcare Corps, even if you aren’t medically trained.

You Can Now Volunteer to Support our Healthcare Workforce Even If You’re Not Medically Trained

The Ministry of Health has set up the SG Healthcare Corps to support Singapore’s Healthcare Workforce in the fight against Covid-19.

If you’re someone who used to, or still is, practising outside of public healthcare, they’re hoping that you’ll join the corps to offer your support during these challenging times.

People they’re looking for include:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Support Care
  • Allied Care
  • Pharmacy
  • Dental
  • Medics
  • Medical Lab

But even if you are not a medical professional, they’re open to having you onboard as well.

You can be trained and deployed to work in one of the two areas where help is needed:

  • Healthcare Ops Support (Swab Ops, Phlebotomist, Admin & Ops)
  • Community Care (Community Care Ambassador, Healthcare assistant)

Even Though It’s “Volunteer”, You Get Paid Too

The training is entirely funded by the SG Healthcare Corps and consists of both e-learning and in-person modules.

Upon completion of the training, you will be deployed to areas which best meets your preferences, availability and manpower needs.

Preparing For An Increase In Covid-19 Cases

For this past week, Singaporeans probably be like:

That’s because our community cases, as well as the total number of Covid-19 cases, has dropped by quite a bit.

But don’t be too happy yet because our handsome Mr Lawrence Wong has come out to say that this trend might not continue.

He asks for Singaporeans to be mentally prepared for an increase in the number of community cases as they proceed to carry out more aggressive testing at nursing homes and on nursing home staff.
